This week, several stocks caught investors’ attention, driven by significant developments and market momentum. Here’s the breakdown of this week’s trending stocks:
Bumble ($BMBL) Jumps on $1.3 Billion Take-Private Deal
Bumble ($BMBL), the parent company of the Bumble, Badoo, and BFF apps, agreed to be acquired by Ithaca Holdings in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $1.3 billion. Bumble shareholders will receive $6.05 in cash for each Class A share.
The offer represents a 138% premium to Bumble’s unaffected October 9 closing price and a 119% premium to its 30-day volume-weighted average price. A premium like this is common in take-private transactions because a buyer needs to offer existing shareholders more than the market price to acquire control of the company.
Bumble’s independent special committee, advised by outside legal and financial advisers, reviewed strategic alternatives and recommended the transaction. The board then approved it, with founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd recusing herself from the board’s deliberations and vote. Affiliates of Blackstone and Wolfe Herd subsequently provided the written shareholder consent needed to approve the deal.
Once the transaction closes, Ithaca co-CEOs Ravi Gupta and John Hegeman will become Bumble’s co-CEOs. Wolfe Herd is expected to remain actively involved with the company. Bumble said it will file its third-quarter Form 10-Q by November 9, but will not issue a separate earnings release or hold an earnings call while the transaction is pending.
The proposed acquisition would take Bumble out of the public markets. Investors should still recognize that the deal has not closed yet: it remains subject to customary conditions, potential regulatory requirements, and the completion of the required transaction documents.
Stock Price Reaction
$BMBL surged 56.6% Tuesday to $5.95, moving close to the $6.05 cash consideration.
Enerflex ($EFXT) Rallies on Major Data-Center Power Project
Enerflex ($EFXT), an energy-infrastructure company, announced a contract to design, engineer, fabricate, and assemble more than one gigawatt of behind-the-meter natural-gas power-generation units for a large North American data-center development.
Behind-the-meter generation means the power equipment sits on the customer’s side of the utility meter. In practical terms, a data-center developer can use dedicated power equipment rather than waiting for a conventional grid connection or transmission upgrades. That may be particularly valuable for large AI and cloud-computing facilities, whose electricity demand is growing faster than many local grids can add capacity.
Enerflex did not identify the customer or disclose the project’s value. Still, the scale is meaningful: one gigawatt is enough power to support a very large data-center campus. The award follows an approximately 450-megawatt data-center project that Enerflex announced earlier this month.
Including the new award and other recent projects, Enerflex said its backlog for behind-the-meter natural-gas generation now exceeds 1.75 gigawatts, with deliveries scheduled through 2028. The company plans to execute the work through its North American manufacturing operations and is investing to expand the capabilities of its Engineered Systems business.
The announcement illustrates one of the less visible parts of the AI infrastructure buildout. Chips, servers, and networking equipment are essential, but they cannot operate without large blocks of dependable electricity. Companies that can design and deliver generation equipment may benefit as developers look for ways to bring new computing capacity online faster.
Stock Price Reaction
$EFXT rose 14.3% Tuesday to close at $27.54. Investors responded to the scale of the new award and the company’s rapidly growing data-center power backlog.
FormFactor ($FORM) Gains Strategic Partner in Teradyne
FormFactor ($FORM), which provides semiconductor testing and measurement equipment, announced a broad technology collaboration with automated-test-equipment maker Teradyne ($TER). As part of the agreement, Teradyne has agreed to make a $300 million strategic equity investment in FormFactor, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
The companies plan to combine FormFactor’s probe, interface, test-engineering, and device-characterization technologies with Teradyne’s automated testing platforms. Their work will focus on areas including high-performance computing, advanced chip packaging, high-bandwidth memory, and silicon photonics.
Testing is an increasingly important part of the semiconductor supply chain. Before a new chip or memory product can move into high-volume production, manufacturers need to confirm that it performs correctly, operates reliably, and meets its power and speed requirements. That process becomes more difficult as chips use more advanced packaging and as multiple components are combined into a single system.
FormFactor and Teradyne said the collaboration is intended to speed the path from technology development and validation to production deployment. For FormFactor, Teradyne’s investment also brings a large strategic partner into its shareholder base. For Teradyne, the agreement expands its reach into the probe and interface technologies used earlier in the semiconductor-testing process.
The deal does not guarantee a specific amount of future revenue, and the investment has not yet closed. Its importance lies in the companies’ attempt to offer a more complete testing solution as demand grows for AI chips, advanced memory, and other high-performance semiconductor products.
Stock Price Reaction
$FORM rose 3.6% in after-hours trading Monday following the announcement.
