KOD

This week, several stocks caught investors’ attention, driven by significant developments and market momentum. Here’s the breakdown of this week’s trending stocks:

Kodiak Sciences ($KOD) Soars After Phase 3 Eye-Drug Success

Kodiak Sciences ($KOD), a biotechnology company developing treatments for retinal diseases, announced positive results from its Phase 3 DAYBREAK trial. Both Zenkuda and tabirafusp-ted, previously known as KSI-501, met their primary endpoints in patients with wet age-related macular degeneration, a condition in which abnormal blood vessels damage the retina and can cause serious vision loss.

Both treatments produced vision improvements that were non-inferior to aflibercept, the active ingredient in Regeneron’s Eylea. Zenkuda also demonstrated potentially competitive durability: 54% of patients reached a six-month dosing interval while following strict retreatment criteria. Less-frequent injections could be attractive to patients and physicians because existing retinal treatments often require appointments every one or two months. Kodiak reported no unexpected safety concerns and plans to submit a multi-indication biologics license application for Zenkuda in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The results substantially improve Kodiak’s chances of bringing its first product to market, but approval is not guaranteed. Investors must also determine whether the trial’s dosing advantages will persist in normal clinical practice and prove strong enough to compete with established treatments including Eylea HD and Roche’s Vabysmo.

Stock Price Reaction

$KOD surged approximately 178% on Monday to $89.92, its highest level in around four years. Regeneron ($REGN) fell approximately 4.5% as investors considered the potential competitive threat to Eylea.

SoundThinking ($SSTI) Jumps on Private-Equity Acquisition

SoundThinking ($SSTI), the public-safety technology company behind the ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system, agreed to be acquired by private-equity firm Transom Capital Group. The transaction will be completed through a tender offer, followed by a merger that would make SoundThinking a privately held company.

Transom will pay shareholders $8 per share in cash. Investors will also receive one non-transferable contingent value right, or CVR, worth up to an additional $3 per share. The CVR payment will depend on future sales involving SoundThinking’s ShotSpotter and SafePointe businesses. The guaranteed $8 consideration represents a 46% premium to SoundThinking’s previous closing price of $5.47, while the maximum potential consideration of $11 per share would value the transaction at approximately $159 million.

The key caveat is that shareholders are not guaranteed to receive the full $11. Only the initial $8 cash payment is fixed; some or all of the additional $3 may never be paid if the specified business-sale conditions are not satisfied. The deal also remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close before the end of 2026.

Stock Price Reaction

$SSTI jumped more than 50% following the announcement. The shares remained below the maximum $11 potential consideration because the CVR is conditional and investors must account for the time, uncertainty and closing risks attached to the transaction.

Synopsys ($SNPS) Rallies on OpenAI and Amazon Agreements

Synopsys ($SNPS), one of the world’s leading providers of semiconductor-design software, announced a multiyear partnership with OpenAI to develop GPT-Synopsys. The specialized AI model will be trained to operate Synopsys’ electronic-design-automation tools, interpret their outputs and help engineers optimize chip performance, power consumption and physical layout.

OpenAI will license Synopsys’ tools to develop the model, while the companies will jointly commercialize the resulting service through a shared-revenue arrangement. Synopsys says customer-specific chip designs will not be used to train the model and will be protected through enterprise security and data controls. AI-generated work will still require verification through Synopsys’ traditional engineering tools because a model-generated chip design must satisfy strict physical and manufacturing requirements.

Synopsys separately announced a multiyear agreement worth more than $1 billion with Amazon. Synopsys will supply silicon intellectual property and engineering software for Amazon’s custom chips and AWS infrastructure. The arrangement introduces a license-plus-royalty model that could allow Synopsys to participate in future production volumes rather than receiving only conventional software-licensing revenue.

Stock Price Reaction

$SNPS gained as much as 7% following the announcements and Synopsys’ investor-day presentation. The company also projected approximately 15% revenue growth for fiscal 2027 and said it intends to repurchase around $1 billion of shares. The OpenAI and Amazon agreements strengthen Synopsys’ position in AI-driven chip development, although the financial contribution from GPT-Synopsys will depend on customer adoption and successful commercialization.
