This week, several stocks caught investors’ attention, driven by significant developments and market momentum. Here’s the breakdown of this week’s trending stocks:

Vaxcyte ($PCVX) Rallies on Phase 3 Vaccine Results

Vaxcyte ($PCVX) reported positive results from OPUS-1, a pivotal Phase 3 trial of VAX-31, its experimental vaccine against pneumococcal disease. The vaccine targets 31 strains of the bacteria responsible for illnesses including pneumonia and meningitis. In adults 50 and older, VAX-31 met the trial’s primary measures of immune response against the strains it shares with Pfizer’s Prevnar 20 and Merck’s Capvaxive. It also met the specified superiority measure for three strains unique to VAX-31 and one additional cross-reactive strain. Vaxcyte said its safety profile was similar to those of the comparison vaccines.

The results support Vaxcyte’s case for a vaccine with broader strain coverage, though the comparison has a nuance: in a separate analysis against Capvaxive alone, two of 19 shared strains missed the trial’s newer, stricter noninferiority threshold, while meeting an older threshold. Additional Phase 3 results are expected in the first half of 2027, and Vaxcyte plans to seek FDA approval in the first half of 2028. VAX-31 remains an experimental product.

Stock Price Reaction

$PCVX closed Monday up 30.7% at $73.82. The shares fell 9.7% Tuesday after Vaxcyte moved to raise approximately $1 billion through an offering of stock and convertible notes, and closed Wednesday at $66.96. The financing could help fund development and manufacturing, but the new shares create dilution for existing shareholders.

Constellation Energy ($CEG) Jumps on Google Nuclear Deal

Constellation Energy ($CEG) and Google announced a 20-year power purchase agreement supporting upgrades at 11 existing nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The work is intended to add 890 megawatts of new generating capacity to the PJM electricity grid. Constellation said the agreement supports more than $4.3 billion of investment, with the first upgraded unit expected to deliver power in 2028. Google expects the full 890 megawatts before the end of 2032.

The companies also signed a separate 15-year agreement covering 2,700 megawatts from existing generation, plus a technology agreement involving Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise. That distinction is central to the story: the frequently cited total of roughly 3.6 gigawatts includes both arrangements, but only 890 megawatts represents planned additional capacity. The upgrades will take years to complete, and the companies did not disclose the electricity pricing.

Stock Price Reaction

$CEG rose 12.25% Tuesday, closing at $300.40. Investors responded to the scale and duration of Google’s commitment as large technology companies seek dependable electricity for growing data-center demand.

Wolfspeed $WOLF Surges After Hours on Conditional $1.5 Billion Loan

Wolfspeed ($WOLF), a producer of silicon carbide materials and power devices, announced Wednesday evening that it had received a conditional commitment for up to $1.5 billion in 30-year financing from the U.S. Department of War. Wolfspeed said the potential funding would support domestic semiconductor production and capabilities relevant to defense applications, including gallium nitride technology. For a manufacturer investing heavily in U.S. facilities, the long loan term could provide financial flexibility if the transaction is completed.

This is a commitment letter, not money already received. Final financing depends on due diligence, definitive agreements, approvals and other conditions. If loan tranches are funded, Wolfspeed would issue warrants that could allow the government to purchase up to 7.5% of the company’s fully diluted equity. That potential ownership is an important cost for investors to weigh against the proposed financing.

Stock Price Reaction

$WOLF finished Wednesday’s regular session at $31.37, before the announcement. The shares surged 27% in extended trading after the news.
