Alibaba ($BABA) Unveils Full-Stack AI Upgrade

Alibaba Group ($BABA), a global technology company focused on e-commerce and cloud computing, announced a comprehensive upgrade of its full AI stack at the Alibaba Cloud Summit, covering foundation models, cloud infrastructure, and semiconductor chips.

At the center of the announcement is Qwen3.7-Max, Alibaba’s latest large language model built for agentic coding, complex reasoning, and long-horizon task execution. According to the company, the model can autonomously run tasks continuously for up to 35 hours and handle over 1,000 tool calls without performance degradation, and will be made available to developers and enterprises worldwide through its Model Studio platform.

On the infrastructure side, Alibaba Cloud launched the Panjiu AL128 Supernode Server, which integrates 128 AI accelerators within a single rack and delivers data transfer speeds at the petabyte-per-second scale. The company said the system is designed to handle the large-scale computing demands that come with running AI agents at enterprise scale.

Alibaba’s chip subsidiary T-Head also introduced the Zhenwu M890, a new AI training and inference processor. According to the company, the chip delivers three times the performance of its predecessor and features 144 gigabytes of memory along with high-speed inter-chip connectivity. T-Head said it has delivered over 560,000 Zhenwu units to date, with more than 400 external customers across 20 industries deploying the chips.

NextEra Energy ($NEE) to Acquire Dominion Energy in $67 Billion Deal

NextEra Energy ($NEE), the largest utility company in the S&P 500 by market value, announced a definitive agreement to acquire Dominion Energy ($D) in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $67 billion, creating what the companies describe as the world’s largest regulated electric utility business.

Under the terms of the deal, Dominion shareholders will receive 0.8138 shares of NextEra for each Dominion share they own, with NextEra and Dominion shareholders expected to own approximately 74.5% and 25.5% of the combined company, respectively. The transaction is structured to be tax-free to shareholders and is expected to close within 12 to 18 months, pending federal and state regulatory approval as well as shareholder sign-off.

According to the companies, the combined business would serve approximately 10 million utility customer accounts across Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with more than 80% of operations being regulated. The merger is also positioned around growing electricity demand from AI data centers, with NextEra CEO John Ketchum noting that scale is increasingly critical for meeting larger and more complex energy projects.

The combined company said it expects to deliver over 9% annual adjusted earnings per share growth through 2032. As part of the deal, the companies also proposed $2.25 billion in bill credits over two years following the close for Dominion’s customers in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
