This week, several stocks drew investor attention after major developments involving critical minerals, data center infrastructure, and artificial intelligence in drug discovery. Here’s the breakdown of this week’s trending stocks:
The Elmet Group ($ELMT) Secures $450 Million Government Investment
The Elmet Group ($ELMT), a U.S.-based producer of tungsten products, advanced materials, and precision-engineered components, announced a $450 million committed investment from the U.S. Department of War to expand domestic tungsten manufacturing and strengthen the country’s critical-minerals supply chain.
Tungsten is valued for its ability to withstand extreme temperatures, pressure, and wear. Those properties make it important in defense systems, aerospace equipment, semiconductors, energy infrastructure, and industrial machinery. According to Elmet, it supplies materials or components for programs including Patriot, Javelin, AEGIS, Trident II, THAAD, and the F-35.
The government investment will begin with a $200 million drawdown at closing, followed by additional funding over time. In exchange, the government will receive redeemable preferred equity, warrants representing as much as 19.9% of Elmet’s common stock on a post-transaction basis, and the right to appoint one independent director and one non-voting observer to the company’s board.
Elmet plans to invest more than $165 million in its facilities in Maine, Michigan, and Ohio. The spending is intended to expand production, increase tungsten output, and modernize infrastructure used to manufacture materials and components for defense, aerospace, and industrial customers.
Another approximately $150 million is expected to support the restart and expansion of the Springer Tungsten Complex in Nevada. Elmet plans to establish a majority-owned joint venture with Blue Moon Metals and Australia-based EQ Resources for the project.
The company will also launch Elmet Refining & Trading, a new division responsible for coordinating raw-material sourcing, processing, and deliveries across its expanding network. Elmet said it intends to combine U.S. production with mining and processing relationships in allied countries, including Australia and Spain, to reduce dependence on Chinese supply.
Separately, Elmet’s operating subsidiary received an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract from the Defense Logistics Agency to supply tungsten ores, concentrates, and sodium tungstate to the U.S. National Defense Stockpile.
The contract has a ceiling of up to $2 billion and includes a guaranteed funded commitment of $150 million. Its initial ordering period runs through August 2031, with an option to extend it through August 2033. The $2 billion ceiling represents the maximum potential value rather than guaranteed revenue, and Elmet said deliveries will be phased in as new mining and processing capacity becomes available.
Stock Price Reaction
$ELMT shares rose about 33% following the announcement.
Generac ($GNRC) Signs $2.4 Billion Amazon Generator Agreement
Generac Holdings ($GNRC), a manufacturer of backup generators and other energy technology, disclosed a long-term agreement to supply Amazon with backup power generators for its data centers.
According to the regulatory filing, Generac expects initial deliveries under the agreement to total approximately $2.4 billion during 2027 and 2028. The deal gives Generac a large, identifiable source of future data center demand as Amazon continues expanding the physical infrastructure behind its cloud computing and artificial intelligence operations.
Data centers require backup generators to keep servers and related equipment operating when the electrical grid fails or becomes unstable. The rapid expansion of AI computing has increased the amount of electricity used by these facilities, making reliable primary and backup power infrastructure increasingly important.
Generac also issued a warrant to an Amazon subsidiary covering up to 1,693,745 Generac shares. The warrant has an exercise price of approximately $200.93 per share and can be exercised through September 16, 2033, subject to its vesting requirements and other conditions.
A total of 307,954 warrant shares vested immediately. The remainder will vest in multiple stages based on the amount Amazon and its affiliates pay Generac for data center generators. The final vesting threshold is tied to as much as $8 billion in aggregate payments, after certain contractual offsets.
In practical terms, the warrant gives Amazon the opportunity to build an equity position in Generac if the commercial relationship grows. It also gives Generac an incentive to expand the relationship well beyond the initial $2.4 billion of expected deliveries.
The agreement does not mean Amazon has committed to pay the full $8 billion immediately. Instead, that figure represents the purchase level connected to the complete vesting of the warrant. The transaction filing also states that portions of the commercial agreement were withheld because they contain confidential terms.
For Generac, the deal represents a substantial expansion of its data center business and strengthens its position as a supplier to large-scale computing facilities. It also gives investors a clearer view of how rising spending on AI infrastructure could translate into demand for the company’s power equipment.
Stock Price Reaction
$GNRC shares surged about 35% in Thursday premarket trading following the disclosure.
Twist Bioscience ($TWST) Joins Lilly TuneLab for AI Drug Discovery
Twist Bioscience ($TWST), a biotechnology company that manufactures synthetic DNA and provides tools used in medical and scientific research, announced an agreement with Lilly TuneLab, Eli Lilly’s collaborative artificial intelligence and machine-learning drug discovery platform.
Under the agreement, Twist will provide antibody characterization data services to TuneLab participants. That includes support for AbLab, an AI model designed to help researchers predict whether antibody candidates have the characteristics needed to become viable medicines.
Antibodies are proteins designed to identify and attach to specific biological targets. Drug developers often begin with a large number of possible antibody sequences and must determine which candidates have the best combination of effectiveness, stability, manufacturability, and other characteristics.
Lilly created TuneLab to give participating biotechnology companies access to drug discovery models trained using decades of Lilly research data. The goal is to help researchers evaluate potential drug candidates more efficiently and reduce the number of weaker candidates that advance into expensive laboratory or clinical testing.
Through the agreement, TuneLab users will be able to order antibody services from Twist using preferred protocols and pricing. Twist will generate physical laboratory data that researchers can compare with TuneLab’s AI predictions, connecting computer-based analysis with experimental results.
Participating researchers may also contribute the resulting information back to TuneLab for federated model training. This process is intended to improve the platform as more antibody-development data is generated and analyzed.
For Twist, the partnership creates an opportunity to supply the laboratory data needed to support AI-driven drug discovery. AI models depend heavily on consistent, well-structured experimental data, and Twist said its high-throughput capabilities allow it to produce that information at the scale required by drug developers.
The partnership also links Twist to a broader network of biotechnology companies using Lilly’s models. However, the announcement did not disclose financial terms, minimum order requirements, or expected revenue from the agreement.
Stock Price Reaction
$TWST shares initially rose as much as about 5% following the announcement.
