Trending Tickers: $MSFT Partnership Revision, $JOBY NYC Flights, $SIMO Storage Surge

This week, several stocks caught investors’ attention, driven by significant developments and market momentum. Here’s the breakdown of this week’s trending stocks:
Microsoft ($MSFT) Amends OpenAI Partnership Agreement
Microsoft ($MSFT), a global technology company offering cloud computing, software, and AI services, announced an amended agreement with OpenAI that restructures the terms of their long-running partnership.
Under the updated deal, Microsoft remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner, with OpenAI products continuing to ship first on Azure. According to the company, Microsoft will retain a license to OpenAI’s intellectual property on AI models through 2032, though the license will no longer be exclusive. OpenAI has also contracted to purchase an incremental $250 billion of Azure cloud services.
The amendment also caps revenue share payments from OpenAI to Microsoft, which the companies said will continue through 2030 independent of OpenAI’s technology progress. According to the companies, the revised terms are designed to give both parties greater flexibility to pursue new opportunities while preserving the core of the partnership.
One notable change is that OpenAI can now serve its products to customers across any cloud provider, rather than being tied exclusively to Azure. Microsoft, in turn, can now independently pursue the development of artificial general intelligence, alone or with third parties.

Joby Aviation ($JOBY) Completes First-Ever Electric Air Taxi Flights in New York City
commercial passenger service, announced the completion of New York City’s first-ever point-to-point electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) demonstration flights, marking the start of a week-long public campaign across the city’s heliport network.
The aircraft departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport and landed at several Manhattan locations, including the Downtown Skyport and heliports in Midtown, covering a route that typically takes between 60 and 120 minutes by car in under 10 minutes. According to the company, the flights are part of the federal eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), a White House-backed initiative designed to accelerate the commercial rollout of electric air transportation across the U.S.
The campaign builds on Joby’s 2025 acquisition of Blade Air Mobility’s passenger business, which the company said served more than 90,000 passengers in 2025 and provides a foundation for future commercial service. According to Joby, partnerships with Delta Air Lines and Uber are intended to create a seamless end-to-end travel experience linking ground transportation and air travel in a single journey.
Joby said it is in the final stages of FAA type certification, recently completing the first flight of its conforming aircraft under Type Inspection Authorization — a step that allows FAA-designated pilots to conduct official test flights for certification credit. The company noted that FAA certification, not demonstration flights, remains the key requirement before paying passengers can board.

Silicon Motion Technology ($SIMO) Posts Triple-Digit Revenue Growth on AI Storage Demand
Silicon Motion Technology ($SIMO), a semiconductor company that designs storage controller chips used in solid-state drives, smartphones, and data center infrastructure, reported first quarter 2026 financial results that significantly exceeded analyst expectations across revenue, earnings, and margins.
The company posted net sales of $342.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, up 105% from the same period a year ago and well above the Wall Street consensus estimate of around $300 million. According to the company, the growth was driven by three key product lines: embedded storage controllers for smartphones and IoT devices, its Ferri automotive and enterprise boot drive solutions, and its newer high-performance SSD controllers for data centers.
The standout contributor was the company’s embedded eMMC and UFS controller business — chips used in smartphones and connected devices — which the company said grew more than 30% from the prior quarter and more than 140% year-over-year, driven by market share gains. Its Ferri and boot drive solutions, which include storage products for automotive applications and AI-related data center infrastructure, grew more than 200% sequentially and roughly 760% year-over-year, as new programs ramped and enterprise customers scaled up demand.
On the bottom line, the company reported GAAP earnings of $1.97 per share and non-GAAP earnings of $1.58 per share, both meaningfully ahead of expectations. Non-GAAP operating margin expanded to 18.2%, up sharply from 8.9% a year ago, reflecting stronger revenue without a proportional increase in costs.
Looking ahead, the company guided second quarter revenue of $393 million to $411 million, implying further sequential growth of 15% to 20% and roughly doubling revenue versus the year-ago quarter. According to the company, its MonTitan enterprise SSD controller product is expected to enter volume production in the current quarter, earlier than originally planned, with five major cloud customers set to ramp in the second half of 2026, three in Asia and two in the United States.
Stock Price Reaction
$SIMO shares surged approximately 45% following the earnings announcement, as investors responded to revenue that more than doubled year-over-year, earnings that far exceeded estimates, and guidance that pointed to continued strong growth into the second quarter.
