Northern Oil and Gas ($NOG) Raises Share Buyback Program, Reaffirms 2026 Guidance
Northern Oil and Gas ($NOG), a company that acquires non-operated working interests and mineral rights in oil and gas fields across North America, announced an update on its second-quarter business, covering hedging results, acquisitions, and shareholder returns.
According to the company, unrealized gains on its derivatives portfolio for the quarter are estimated between $155 million and $160 million, while realized hedge losses tied mainly to its oil hedges are estimated between $85 million and $90 million.
The company said it had to temporarily shut in about 7,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, mostly in Texas and New Mexico, after weak natural gas prices in the Permian Basin made pumping less economical there. As a result, NOG expects second-quarter oil production to land between 67,500 and 68,250 barrels per day, though it noted gas volumes still hit a record and that production outside the affected region beat internal targets.
NOG also kept up its “ground game” strategy of buying small oil and gas interests, closing 30 deals in the quarter that added over 2,300 net acres for about $45 million. On June 1, the company closed its previously announced deal for a 25% stake in Canada’s Duvernay assets, paying roughly CA$237 million in cash and issuing about 3.7 million shares.
The company repurchased 2.95 million shares, or about 3% of shares outstanding, during the quarter, largely offsetting the new shares issued for the Duvernay deal. After the quarter closed, on July 10, NOG’s board increased its stock buyback authorization by $150 million, bringing total repurchase capacity to about $243 million. The company also reiterated its full-year 2026 production and capital spending guidance.

According to the company, the new facilities will support increased production of its 800G and 1.6T optical transceivers. These are components that let data centers move information between servers over fiber-optic cables at very high speeds, and they are widely used in the buildout of AI infrastructure.
The company said the expansion builds on its existing Houston-area footprint and is intended to support long-term growth as demand grows from cloud computing and AI customers. Local officials in Pearland said the project is expected to bring new manufacturing jobs to the area.

The deal covers 175 megawatts of computing capacity, with deliveries expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027.
